A portion of the Nokota herd resides at Whiskey Road Reserve, pastureland likely grazed by the same bloodline of prior generations. In a sense, they have come home! Careful attention is given to ensure an abundance of native grasslands for grazing. While supplemental hay is available, the Nokotas have demonstrated their love of nature's provisions, preferring the native grasslands. We can assure you...they are healthy and happy! Donations made ensure that, in times of drought or difficult winter months, hay is available to the Nokota herd.

Nokota Wild Preservation, in partnership with Whiskey Road Reserve, consistently monitors the safety of the horses as it relates to fencing, securing the perimeter of the pastureland, their home. The Foundation is currently pursuing the opportunity to expand the habitat! To achieve the expansion, funds are required to purchase supplies. Additionally, we are rallying volunteers to provide equipment and/or assist in fencing. Anyone familiar with ranching understands this is not an inexpensive task and requires some manual labor and grit!

The Nokotas absolutely thrive on the plains and love their natural habitat. However, Nokota Wild Preservation has an opportunity for structural improvements of existing shelter near the pastureland, providing the horses access to shelter during harsh weather conditions. Contributions to this effort would be greatly appreciated given the upcoming winter months!

Especially on the plains of North Dakota, a reliable water source is essential. Fortunately, Whiskey Road Reserve has the infrastructure to support three water tanks. On hot summer days, the tanks are popular gathering spots for the herd. During the freezing winter months, while their preference is eating snow, one tank is equipped with a heater to ensure there is always a fresh water supply.
